Susan P. Luek, Ph.D.

Dr. Susan LuekFrom 1972 until her retirement in 2012, Susan P. Luek, Ph.D., taught psychology as a professor at ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ. Luek Hall, formerly Byerly Hall, is home to the ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ psychology department and was renamed in her honor in 2017. Through her dedication to student success at ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ, Dr. Luek established the Susan P. Luek High Impact Practices Endowment, which supports student and faculty research needs, including costs associated with research, instructional technology and conferences.

Throughout her 40-year teaching career, Dr. Luek made a lasting impact on ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ and greatly enhanced opportunities for students. Dr. Luek served as advisor for the ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ Psychology Club, and in 1989, she brought the International Honors Society in Psychology, Psi Chi, to ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ. Along with Dr. Ruth Benns-Suter, she started the Women’s Center, and helped to initiate ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ’s honors program, which is now known as the Honors College. Luek served on Faculty Senate and judged the Lancaster County Science and Engineering Fair for more than 30 years. Additionally, she holds honor society membership with Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, Psi Chi and Pi Lambda Theta. In recognition of her passion for education, Dr. Luek was named ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ’s first Educator of the Year in 2010-2011. During her retirement, Dr. Luek continues to support the University community by visiting ÎÞÓǶÌÊÓƵ frequently to meet with friends and colleagues and to advise students, in addition to volunteering with the American Red Cross and American Heart Association.
