STUDENT RESEARCH AT MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY

Every year MU makes over $130,000 available to support student and student-faculty research or creative work. These funds create opportunities for students to develop the skills necessary for professional success after graduation. Many of the funds are open to all students, while others are restricted to specific majors. Funding ranges between $500 and $5,000 and varies by program and project type.

Information on specific funding programs including application forms, funding guidelines, eligibility requirements, and program-specific contact information can be found below. Though some of the awards are listed as "scholarships" they all support programs where research or creative activity is emphasized.

BIOLOGY STUDENT INVESTIGATOR
Supports student research. Any student engaged in independent research is eligible to apply. Preference to BIOL 498 or 499.

COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY STUDENT TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS

Students with a major within the College of Science and Technology who are presenting their research or who are participating in an academic competition as the sole/lead presenter/competitor are eligible to apply

No deadline - applications accepted on a rolling basis.

JOSEPH AND MARIANNE NOLT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Awarded as tuition for thesis courses and as a grant to support scholarly or applied research associated with the thesis.

KAREN A. MURLEY SURF PROGRAM IN CHEMISTRY
This program is open to the exceptional chemistry majors of the chemistry department and is limited to two students.

KEEVER BIOLOGY RESEARCH TRAINING FUND
Supports research by undergraduate biology majors.

Due March 5, 2025

10-week long intensive student-faculty research or creative experience. ALL MU students are encouraged to apply - students from all disciplines and majors are supported.

Due February 28, 2025

NEIMEYER HODGSON RESEARCH GRANT
Provide grants for student scholarly and creative projects, including those in the humanities, arts, and sciences. Applications accepted twice a year.

Due October 11, 2024; February 14, 2025

NOONAN ENDOWMENT FUND
Supports student participation in conferences and performance competitions, field trips, and programs bringing speakers/consultants/activities to the campus for the benefit of large numbers of students.

Due October 4, 2024; February 21, 2025

OGSPR DISCRETIONARY FUND
Funding is available through the OGSPR Discretionary Fund supports student travel to present.

Rolling Deadline

PARKS ENDOWMENT
Supports developing a botanical research project in collaboration with a faculty member that will lead to the presentation of research results in the Dr. James C. Parks Memorial Lecture in their senior year.

Due April 11, 2025

PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

The President’s Commission on Cultural Diversity & Inclusion (PCCDI) is committed to supporting and facilitating programs that help create, sustain or promote a climate that fosters cultural diversity on campus and within the broader community. The President’s Commission on Cultural Diversity & Inclusion also welcomes proposals that contribute to policy developments that impact and enrich the educational experience of students.

PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
The PCSW welcomes funding proposals that address issues and concerns pertaining to campus women, with an eye towards long-term influence.

PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION FELLOWSHIP
The President’s Commission on Cultural Diversity & Inclusion Fellowship is a paid summer Research Mentoring Fellowship (RMF) for underrepresented or first generation undergraduate students.

Rolling Deadline, applications to be reviewed starting February 1st until cohort is full

RACHEL CARSON/LIDDELL FIELD COURSE BIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP
Supports field course studies for any School of Sciences and Mathematics major.

STUDENT GRANTS FOR RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY
Funds requested must be related to faculty-supervised research or creative project or to their undergraduate or graduate thesis. Applications accepted twice a year.

SUSAN P. LUEK ENDOWMENT
Supports student-faculty research needs within the department of Psychology. Students who apply to the Susan P. Luek Endowment are encouraged to seek funding from multiple sources.
